About the Author
Born on January 5, 1893, in Gorakhpur, India, Paramhansa Yogananda was a trailblazing yogi who became the first from India to permanently reside and teach in the West. Arriving in America in 1920, he embarked on nationwide “spiritual campaigns,” captivating vast audiences in America’s largest halls. Heralded by major media like Time Magazine and Newsweek, he was even welcomed at the White House by President Calvin Coolidge.
Yogananda’s enduring legacy was solidified with his groundbreaking work, “Autobiography of a Yogi” (1946), sparking a global spiritual revolution. His teachings, rooted in universal wisdom, emphasized the balance between material and spiritual realms. Yogananda’s profound impact extended beyond his era, demystifying ancient Indian teachings and fostering spiritual understanding worldwide.
Through Kriya Yoga, the ‘jet-airplane’ route to God, he illuminated the path of spiritual evolution, stressing the importance of intuitive experience over mere belief. In “The Essence of Self-Realization,” he articulated that true religion lies in the intuitive knowledge of God, proclaiming Self-Realization as the realization that the kingdom of God is within, attainable through improved understanding. Until his passing in 1952, Yogananda tirelessly lectured and wrote, leaving an indelible mark on spiritual seekers worldwide.
